Can the notion of ‘ambiance’ change the way we look, do and think architecture? By revealing the multiple ways in which a place affects us, the notion of ‘ambiance’ reveals the particular rhythm of a place. We will try through the reflection of Henry Maldiney to understand the stakes of thinking rhythms in architecture. To do so, we will first introduce Henry Maldiney’s specific approach of the concept of rhythm of. Then, through the visit of the Grachaux house designed by architect Bernard Quirot, we will try to see if some tools for analysis and design can arise from rhythm thought.
