The paper addresses things and ambiances in the context of the digital realm. To do so it analyses a series of terms, such as: words, design, ambiance, things, suddenly. It examines the changes brought by the digital to the traditional dipole subject-object and the way things are becoming emancipated and independent from the subject, configuring artificially intelligent environments. These things are ready to participate to the encounter that suddenly occurs between the traditional pair human knower-known thing in a way that questions the active-passive distinction. Hybrid things are getting free and as such, they become actors that operate veiled or revealed in a network of complicated and elaborate relations.
